What is Oktoberfest?

Oktoberfest is an annual festival in Munich, Germany, held over a two-week period and ending on the first Sunday in October. The festival originated on October 12, 1810, in celebration of the marriage of the crown prince of Bavaria, who later became King Louis I, to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. Cincinnati hosts it’s very own every year and it has become the largest in the US.  The fest is filled with lots of German traditions including dancing, historical clothing and some amazing foods!

The Underground Railroad: The Underground Railroad was an intricate system of helping slaves move through the country to the North where they could have freedom.  It took many people to maintain the system and to keep the peoples safe as they made their journey. Cincinnati was a major stop on that route helping people find freedom!  You can read more about the heroes and their journeys here.

Behringer-Crawford Museum: the perfect place to entertain anyone from age two to 92. The museum covers the history of Northern Kentucky. You’ll see an amazing train display, sit in a 1959 Buick Electra convertible, and fish from the back of a steamboat.

All About Cornhole: Cornhole is a backyard leisure game usually played in teams of two.  Each team tosses beanbags across to their boards trying to get in the open hole, or as close as possible.  There is debate over where this game actually started, but some believe it was played as far back as the 14th century in Germany.  Which makes sense then to find Cincinnati as the Cornhole capital with their strong German pride throughout the city!
